After we found out that my husband lost his job, we called and canceled all of our remaining poultry orders. There was one that was already en route so of course, that one could not be canceled. It arrived the other day....in the mail.
That's a box of CHICKS! That went through the US mail! Ha ha. See inside?
Little yellow chicks!
They're only one day old! So cute.
See the ones with the black heads? In the picture below... Those are the turkeys. The rest are chickens.
It's amazing how cute they start out. And how homely they end up. Heh.

They came in the MAIL!!??!!
Good thing you were home before the coyotes got to 'em.
They are so cute!
Oops . . . hit "publish" before I put in my name. sorry
Awww, and don't you wish you could also insert their sounds with the pics? So cute and fuzzy now. SO UG-EL-Y when they're grown.
Awww, they really are cute! Before I was married my family lived out in the country and we had a menagerie of critters - chickens, ducks, horses, a baby calf, dogs. It was a lot of fun!
They had free roam of the property but every one of them preferred staying right up at the house. : ) So sweet! Every time I walked out the back door everyone came a runnin! They followed you all around, just like puppies! We had baby chicks too - kept them in the end stall in the barn, until they got bigger. One day they found a little mouse hole under the wall and paraded out of the barn in a straight line. My wonderful collie promptly herded them all up and paraded them right back into the stall and my brother placed a barrier to keep them safely in.
Those were good days. I love being around animals. They make you feel better, just being around them.
I read back through the last couple of posts. Girl, it sounds like my life, being relived by someone else. SERIOUSLY. Bobby was laid off 3 weeks after 9-11 and we spent nearly 17 months jobless. Scariest time of my life. Our country was reeling at the time and NO ONE was hiring, afraid of what might happen, hanging on to what they had for dear lives. I understand the fear that grips a family when their way to make a living is suddenly gone.
BUT...
I have great hope that your husband will be able to find alternate employment much sooner than our experience! Our country is not reeling from disaster at this time, though we do live in uncertain times.
I pray this time would be short, but instructive to your family. God is very aware as He was when we lost our job. He is IN THIS. He will see you through this time. I am a living testimony of this truth.
It has not been easy and we have never fully recovered. After working up the ladder for more than 30 years, it was rather difficult to start over at a beginner's salary. We are still struggling to stay afloat. I know some of the lessons that were meant for us to learn, but don't understand the ongoing struggles just to survive.
Guess what I am trying to say is - I understand where your heart and emotions are right now. And I know how empty it feels when people offer platitudes (Don't worry, have faith,God will take care of you, etc) Well it's easy to say that when your husband has a job, a paycheck comes regularly and you just got home from grocery shopping, and buying your kids a new wardrobe..etc. It's TOUGH to not know where your next meal is coming from. One important thing I learned was from people who BECAME God's hands and feet and SUPPLIED OUR NEEDS by GIVING. This is how God provides - through obedient people who give at His nudging.
Don't be afraid to ask for what you need, and make your needs known if time goes by and you guys don't yet have a job. This is a responsibility of the church family though I can sadly testify that in our case, too often our needs were met by unbelievers - caring neighbors and members of the community often came to our assistance BEFORE God's family.
Hey, the Lord will use whomever He pleases. We were always grateful (and it is humbling but to be humbled won't kill us.)
I know this is rambling. I am being rushed off of here by a kid. : / Just wanted to say a few things. Keep your chin up and keep your heart open.
Love and hugs
Lynn
